How to handle LinkedIn Groups being spammed

A couple of months ago LinkedIn revamped its platform and took away the news channel, integrating this with the discussion board. This lead to the bloggers posting direct links to their posts via the discussion section and irritating LinkedIn purists.

Within our BinB Group I have advised people that I’d rather they didn’t add just blog links but actually gave their entry some thought.

Being me, this can sometimes be very direct and cause people to go, well sod you then … which works but then you also would like folk to keep contributing and they’ll not if you have put their noise out of joint … (bit of pun there, ho, ho)

Any road, got my own wrist slap by the The UK Marketing Lounge group this morning for a post made over the weekend … I didn’t abuse things on purpose, I was on a role :)

The UK Marketing Lounge LinkedIn Group

Hi Jon

I hope you're well?

Thanks for your latest contribution to the group however we are kindly asking members to further encourage discussion and debate by adding an engaging intro to the often less appealing article-only submission. The rule of thumb is that it should be more about the engaging discussion post than the link.

We’ve found that members who dress up their contributions in such a way that it can become a discussion point are rewarded with far greater exposure. It’s all about comments you see. The more comments you get, the longer your post will stay at the top of the group discussions page. This way you're also making a valuable contribution to the group!

I hope you appreciate where I'm coming from and I'll leave it with you to repost with something that'll open up a lively debate.

Many thanks

Lydia

I did like the way that Lydia very politely asked me to be more considerate … please adapt for your own world and then pop along to The UK Marketing Lounge and thank you Lydia.

Excellent ... the perfect way to handle LinkedIn Groups being spammed.

Thank you
