Social networks need Unique Community Spirit

Every social network needs a Unique Community Spirit aka UCS !
For an online social network to be effective then it needs to have a UCS of its very own. This will be driven by the team challenged with managing the community. Everyone has their own ideas on how a community should evolve ... many will have a financial motive, others will be created for the benefit of the local community or a good cause, like climate change! For other people to get involved then they need to be motivated, in the first instance, to fill in the registration form! This can be speeded up with a Twitter widget but they still need to go, “I need to be part of this web space... let me in!” Once the form is filled in they need to move into “I want to contribute mode” ... most will just hang around waiting for others to show them the way but if the UCS is special enough, they will have no choice but to add content, content, content. It has to be the mission of every good Social Media Director to create a high octane Unique Community Spirit to ensure the social network grows and prospers... Part of my mission with this article was to date stamp the use of the term Unique Community Spirit and now I must go and ensure that each of my communities has its own, very special UCS ... let the people decide which offer something they need to be part of!
