Joined up social networking is the way forward. With so many online forum taking root on the Internet you need to be selective about which ones you join, when you join, how much time you put into each, etc.

Obviously, as with any website, if the owners are inactive, so is the site! Jon Davey has created a LinkedIn space for Businesses in Berkshire so they can add content to the forum in the form of news and discussions which can get picked up by those LinkedIn members also based in Berkshire. Currently, nearly 200 business men and women are part of this group. We are trying to encourage users to add more content but as with any online community, many simply join to tick a box but don’t actually engage. It is only through active engagement in an online community that people know you exist, who you are and what you can offer them! Video is a very powerful tool. It allows people to see what you look like and therefore put you into even more context, creating a greater understanding and stronger bond along the way. Jon has found a great website that allows you to not only add video but shoot the video in real time using your web cam. You can then add content around the page the video sits on, adding links to places of interest, and this can all be done in few minutes from the comfort of your office. The latest craze perpetuated by the ego of celebrity and techies who find themselves “so interesting” is Twitter. It’s of the moment so Jon has an account and is giving it a try. It tends to be mass follow and no-one actually listening. A land grab by the owners to collect all important data and offer themselves up to the highest bidder... but that’s only Jon’s opinion, there are many fans. LinkedIn is far more productive. Information is king and this is why so many online networks are offering themselves for free. The key is to try different online forum and networks for yourself and make up your own mind. Once you are happy with your lot then you need to turn to Jon Davey to help you tune them into one web site. Like a web roundabout or router where you can present roads to all your different online forum and community interests, allowing visitors to join the dots and get a much better understanding of who you are and what you offer.
