Facebook business or pleasure?

Facebook is probably the largest social network on the planet with 300 million active users and 50% of their active users log on in any given day!!
How do you use it for business or pleasure? A couple of days ago I started becoming proactive with Facebook so that I could gain an better understanding of what it is and how people can make the most of it. We deployed the content management system for Business in Berkshire in 2004, launched a national business social networking site in the form of Business Leads UK back in October 2009 and now it is time to work on a mission on a truely social network. The group had to be fun and easily manageable so I came up with I Love Windsor .co.uk, pointing the domain straight at the group in Facebook to make it easy for people to find it. I figured that with 300,000,000 active users on Facebook a target of 100,000 registered fans would be an appropriate target... and to make it even more interesting, I want to achieve this by Christmas... 2010!! I launched I Love Windsor on Thursday 26th November and on writing this we currently have 9 fans ... a little bit of work to do me thinks!! Saturday someone pointed out there was a We Love Windsor group, popped over and they have 3,816 fans! Wow, that's more than 9 ... read the home page and it seems to be younger folk posting (and obviously the local cab company!) ... checked the profiles of the guys running the group, 2 young ladies and a bloke whose profile is not on display ... reaffirms they are aiming at the younger local market. My market is local but also international, people who love Windsor and want to know more about its history and culture. I did a search for Windsor and over 500 groups appeared, the vast majority with less than 20 members. Windsor Ontario has 11,335 members, Liquid Nightclub in Windsor has over 2,400 fans ... there are a couple of Legoland groups with around 60 fans ... a number of employee groups have been set up, I noticed local bar and eatery Browns with 58 employees ... someone else had promoted a house party! One Windsor town in the USA has 52 local bloggers as part of a group, great idea ... Fair Trade Ontario has 49 members ... I know the chap that got Fair Trade status for Maidenhead, maybe a tie up? It's interesting to see how different folk are using Facebook ... Popping over to see what's cooking around the celebrities with it being X Factor and I'm a Celebrity this weekend... First stop I'm a Celebrity and they have nearly 250,000 fans, excellent... over to X Factor and I had to laugh, just under 150,000 fans for the TV show ... good but what's this ... over 375,000 fans for GET JOHN AND EDWARD OFF XFACTOR !! :), had to join in ... Twitter - 15,273 fans for imacelebrity ... following 1,796 ... xfactorgb 13,450 fans ... following 9,432 ... different schools of thought on the follow programme ... Your mission, should you choose to accept it... Our Ian has the hots for Sabrina, let's have a laugh, if you have a Facebook account, pop over and become a fan of Sabrina and write on her wall "Our Ian Richard Hendry fancies you!" |
