Google adding Tweets
Listening to the radio on the way back from school and I heard that Google will be displaying Tweets across the bottom of the search page ... how does that work financially ... I guess they must have a share in the Billion Dollar machine that is Twitter that gets excessive courage on the BBC ... do Twitter have a TV license? Anyway, that's another story...
Did a quick search on the phrase "google adding tweets" as that seemed to be the logical one for me and amongst a bunch of spam websites were a few good stories for your viewing pleasure... Reading an extract from Techtree.com from today (22nd October 2009) Microsoft has announced that it will add live updates from micro-blogging service Twitter to its search engine - Bing. Following that, Google too announced plans for live Twitter updates integration in its search engine. At the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, Microsoft mentioned about its public access to public Twitter feed and also got Bing Twitter search beta; only for U.S. residents as of now. Google promised to roll out Twitter integration in its search engine "in the coming months". Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of Microsoft's online services group, said, "We are going to get access to all of the public Twitter information in real time." Bing will also get the Facebook status feed at a later date. Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer, Facebook, said, "We are giving Bing a feed of data made open to everyone. No money exchanged hands. We are not trying to make money on data." Over to The Telegraph who had something to say on 9th October Twitter in talks with Google and Microsoft to add real-time tweets to search results Twitter is reported to be in "advanced negotiations" with Google and Microsoft about licensing its data feed for use in their search engines. Looks like there was a panic attach by Techies over at cnet news thinking there precious Tweets would be indexed by Google ... surely that’s the point! I must be way off the pace here... secret Tweets!?!?! False alarm: Google not indexing Twitter's protected tweets by Harrison Hoffman The L.A. Times and now, Mashable are reporting that a security hole in Twitter allows protected tweets to be indexed by Google. After looking into the matter, we have determined that Google is not displaying protected tweets but rather indexing all public tweets, some from accounts that are now protected. And this little twitter widget popped up amongst the tweets ... Why not tell the world what you're doing even quicker using http://twittercal.com/ ? |
