Why is this web page like it is?

Jon Davey is an online marketing expert. This has not been achieved by reading a book and applying someone else's theory but by testing, testing, testing.
For year's we had design led pages which had been agonised over! Today we have a nice clean template using shades of grey and orange links, which we used on the previous design and still work on this template. Let me talk you through the layout step by step... Web Page Title The web page title is the single most important ingredient on the web page. From both a search engine and human point of view it is the first thing they see and will determine the next step. If the web page title doesn’t read properly then the human eye will miss it and so not click. The search engine will index the page around the title and if no-one is searching for that string, what’s the point, every which way you are invisible to potential visitors to that web page. more Web Page Header Our web page header simply includes the title and a slogan, stating what we do. The web page title is tailored towards the search engines, the slogan should then give clarity on what the website is about. more Site Navigation Our CMS puts the site navigation down the left of the page. This is logical for web visitors. We are used to clicking on navigation down the left or across the top. more Contact Form Once the web visitor has read all they want to read, be that 1 page or more, they will hopefully want to make contact! Some may want to phone... that’s why we put the phone number top right of the template. more Phone Number Having your phone number on every page and easy to find is very important. If people like what they see and read then they may want to make contact. If they like to just pick up the phone and dial then ensuring your number is very obvious on every page makes good business sense. more Address Details The law dictates that you need to have your address on every page of your website. So many sites still don’t do this and make it difficult for people to authenticate your physical location. This ticks a mental box as well as a legal requirement. more Links to Customer Websites Links to your website are important. If they go to an internal page then this gives the link more credibility. In the middle ages of the web people were obsessed with reciprocal links. Today this has been devalued by the link farms and web spammers so one way links are the best way forward. If these links are in context, relating to the story being told, then this is the best way to build value. more Social Networking Links
Showing links to your social networking sites makes for good business practice. If your web visitor is also a member of any of your social networks they can connect to you on the various sites and possibly introduce you to some new friends! more |
